The Daily 5

The Daily 5 is a series of independent literacy tasks that students work on each day.  Our goal for each task it to become a better reader and writer.  We start off the year learning about and practicing Read to Self.   As we build stamina, we will add new tasks to our literacy block.
When all is up and running smoothly, we will be working on the following:

• Read to Self
• Word Work
• Work on Writing
• Listen to Reading
• Read to Someone (done through guided times)

While students work on these tasks, we are able to work with students in small guided reading groups or one-on-one on specific skills.  The Daily 5 includes 3 rounds a day - each round is started with a mini-lesson focusing on a reading or writing skill.
